visual identity+logos+branding

“Engine Head did an amazing job… Felt listened to and responded to at every stage. Really quick turnaround and fantastic output.”
Tom B, Serco
Visual identity
We don’t just design logos here at Engine Head, we design visual identities. We make websites, branding, educational courses, user interfaces – you name it – look and feel like they’ve come from you.
That can include creating:
- A logo
- A set of colours and marks
- A font combination
- A general visual style
- A brand
- Some combination of all of the above

Working on visual identity from scratch
This is usually a pleasure to do, but it can take some time. Creating a look from nothing is difficult, even for experienced designers and for us to hone in on what you like, it often means eliminating things that you don’t. Good communications, moodboards and constructive feedback are all methods we employ to get at what it is you need and want for your work.
Brightening & reinventing brand assets
Being inventive with established branding is important and its a fun thing to do. We can work with your metrics, with your principles, with your imagery and brand guidelines or we can go way out into left-field with some wilder ideas.
Creative design
We’re always designing flyers, painting illustrations, laying out books, laying out big documents, coming up with ideas or putting front-end code together to make a web page sing. In fact, if you contact us now, you’ll probably interrupt Fran working on a poster or a flyer or a concept of some sort.
Its pleasing and fun to turn creativity into reality for clients and at one time or another over the years, most kinds of organisation have come in through the door and been on the books. Big, small, corporate, mid-sized, agile, charity and one-woman-and-her-keyboard style outfits all need this kind of work.

Brand assets & creative design
Being a creative endeavour underneath it all, we can put an artistic spin on whatever visuals we’re using. That’s not always possible (or desirable to be honest) and we’ll always work hard to find aesthetics that complement the project and make it the best it can be.
At Engine Head we’re particularly drawn to nature and to natural forms and geometries. Linework and colour have served us well in the past and you’ll find an abundance of painterly approaches to visuals and visual identities too (even in report design!). More than anything though, play is the most fun. Its a tried and tested way to make something original – should you need it – and you’d be surprised at how seemingly silly ideas can be useful or good jumping off points for something great. If you’re excited about making new stuff or subverting something that already exists (for example established branding) then I think we’ll enjoy working together.
Illustration in general
Illustration work is always a pleasure to produce. Printed wall art, one-off pieces and art and illustration in general are all things that we’d love to work with you on. We’ve illustrated books in the past and we’d love to do more, so if you want a print of anything you can see on the site or on the Instagram feed, we use a high quality local printing service who specialise in archival quality stock at very good prices. We can make prints from postcard size all of the way up to A1. Fire off an email if you want to discuss something like that.
If you want art and illustration for your report, then simply request it. Digital art is already priced in in most cases (its usually a part of the design service to us) so more often than not, there won’t be any extra charge for drawings, paintings, line art, technical drawings and data visualisation. Obviously, if you want 207 technical drawings of floorboard fixings, partition load diagrams and a graph to make each chapter sing – rather than 8 starfish paintings – there may be an extra charge. Just ask if you’re not sure.
There is an outlet for Fran’s art and writing called Between6and16miles where you can buy his prints and read his published (and non-published) written work. Read more about Fran on the about page.
